My rug loom is done and I am getting to play. I really enjoy this, its relaxing. I am just using old clothes and sewing scraps that i have on hand. Actually that was the whole point of the rag rugs. I my grandmothers time clothes were past down through the children; what was left was made into quilts to keep warm; what was not suitable for quilts were made into rugs for the floor. It scary how quickly we went from a practical society to a throwaway society.
For those of us who enjoy learning the old crafts this is a good one that is pretty easy to accomplish. I will be offering these looms for sale soon as well as classes and DVDS
Benjamin was one of Ruby's first babies. He came back to me the other day to get some serious grooming. His owner had some health and schedule issues and he got out of hand with the felting.
After hours of working with a seam ripper and taking small snips with the scissors he was finally free from his felted coat.
He looks like he has a friend but it is just his old felted coat sitting beside him
I can't believe it has been so long since my last update here. This last year has been a whirlwind. My daughter was a senior; a 10 yr 4 H member and starting college this fall. Now that everything has settled down a bit I will be making some changes and posting more. I am going to take this to the next level and be a business. I will still offer free videos and advice but my products are expanding. I will be selling rabbits, fiber, yarn, spindles, looms and giving workshops. I will also have DVD's for sell.
Babies will still be born here and offered for sale periodically
The litter of French Angora babies have been tattooed. I will have 3 fawn babies for sale. I am uncertain of the genders but I think they are bucks.
This is Zeus. He is a chestnut agouti french that will be staying here. I think he is going to make an awesome herd buck. It is hard to take a good picture of him because if he's not in my lap he is never still.
These are the English angora litter. I will have 1 white and 1 black for sale unless the chestnut agouti is a doe then it will be 1 white and it. They are only 3 weeks old and so it will be awhile before they are ready to leave.
We are halfway through our county fair. I have been doing spinning demos and have enjoyed meeting some new angora owners in our county. Our sheep people are super great and have shared wool with me.
I hope to get some new pics and info on babies that we have for sale. I have a litter of french that will be leaving in a couple of weeks. Most are spoken for but I have a few left.
I also have an English litter that are about 2 weeks old that will be leaving in Aug. There are 6 of them and 3 reserved.
I am in the process of putting together a couple of workshops to raise money for our family Arts building. One will be on spinning- make a use a drop spindle and how to make both a kick wheel and spinning wheel from recycled things. The other will be on Weaving-making a using a triangle loom and how to make a navajo loom. If you are near bedford IN and would like more info on these workshops just let me know and I will add you to the list.
Ruby's newest litter was born on April 30 and will be available to leave in June. They are all already spoken for. She had 3 choc and 1 Lilac pointed. I did breed Ginger and should have babies from her before long. I am glad to have another doe to try to keep up with people wanting babies. LOL. I plan to keep on of these does myself for future breedings. Of all the babies that Ruby has had, they sold so quickly that I don't have one myself. I will not be breeding her again until November. Summer is not a good time to be pregnant or have newborn babies. Natasha lost a whole litter of day old babies last summer when our temps spiked to 114 in June.
Here is a picture of my EA chestnut agouti doe that I kept from the litter. I can't wait to spin this wool. I love the color and hope to see more of it from her future babies. I have had several people facebook me interested in this color. I do have my English doe and a French doe bred and should have babies within 3 wks. I will post pics of babies here and on facebook. It has been a busy 2 months around here and is about to get busier. The new rabbit barn is getting closer as the weather seems to be breaking. It will be nice to have all the rabbits under one roof with lights and a grooming station in the barn.
We went to the Columbus, IN rabbit show in Feb and Ruby won Best of Breed French Angora
Thanks to Emily Browning I have added 3 french angoras to my barn. These are beautiful rabbits and I can't wait to spin their wool.
This is a picture of "Doc" a black Tort buck.
This is a picture of Eb (Ebony) a Black buck. I will do some future breedings between him and Ruby. They should have some really pretty babies with some awesome fur.
Below is Latte my new fawn doe.
They seem to be settled in. I have had them for almost a week. They come to the front of the cages to get loved on as I am feeding them. I am hoping to show them in Columbus, IN Feb 9. Can't wait to see how they do on the show table. Hope they do well but it doesn't really matter they will still come home with me.
The English are coming, the English are coming! Actually they are already here and cute as can be. I have 3 english angora babies but talk about going fast. I am keeping the chestnut agouti and the 2 whites are already spoken for.
We never get tired of babies around here. Can't wait to see what colors we will get in the next litter. I still would like to bring another doe from MK angoras but right now I am in the process of building a rabbit barn and things are too hectic.
I need to think of a special name for the little agouti. Its hard to do sometimes until you know whether it is a buck or doe.
Avalanche having fun running through the house. He is still with me, which is fine. I think he is going to make an awesome buck.
Bianca has not had babies and my plan was to rebreed her. It will probably be saturday before that gets done. It has been one crazy week around here and I am behind on alot of things.
The plan is to get a bigger rabbit barn built this spring so I can house a few more angoras. Everyone needs more angoras. LOL
I got into angoras because I was given some free ones a few years ago and fell in love with them. They are great companions and have gotten me into spinning and knitting.
